Both Free School applications approved for Bellevue Place Education Trust
Bellevue Place Education Trust are delighted to announce that both of their applications to set up primary schools in Bray and Islington have been approved by the Department for Education.
Bray Free Primary School plans to open on the site of the former Winbury Preparatory School in Bray in September 2014 with 28 in the Reception Year. The school will grow organically to reach its capacity of 196 pupils in 2020.
Islington Free Primary School will initially open in 2014 with two classes of 28 pupils and the school will grow to reach its full capacity of 392 pupils in 2020.
Both schools will be non-fee paying, non-selective, non-denominational and co-educational, and will welcome children from all backgrounds.
Islington Free Primary School plans to open on its preferred site at the former Ashmount Primary School in the London Borough of Islington. Bellevue Place Education Trust has already met with the Local Authority and are currently having discussions with the Education Funding Agency and Department for Education in respect of this option.
Tom Legge, lead proposer for both schools, said: “We’re delighted to say that our proposals for both Bray and Islington Free Primary Schools have been approved into the ‘pre-opening’ phase. This is the first milestone in the journey to successful opening in September 2014 as it means that we are now able to progress our plans with the Department for Education and the Education Funding Agency. While there is a great deal of work still to be done, our team has a great deal of experience in opening and running ‘Outstanding’ schools and we are looking forward to the challenges and exciting times that lie ahead.
Tom added: “Huge thanks to all the people who have supported our application and registered their interest in sending their children to the schools. Without your support this would not have become a reality and we understand how important it is for you to see these schools succeed.”
With a shared vision for high quality education, Bellevue Education Group and Place Group formed Bellevue Place Education Trust. As is the case with all Free Schools and Academies the Trust will be run on a not-for-profit basis. The Trust is also opening a primary school in Balham this September. Rutherford House School will open with two full Reception classes.
Mark Malley, Trustee of Bellevue Place Education Trust, adds: “Our aim is to provide a safe, stimulating and welcoming learning environment for children from the ages of 4 to 11. Our schools will forge strong links between school, home and the wider community, in order to optimise educational opportunities and outcomes for children of all abilities and backgrounds. An education at our schools will enable every pupil to achieve confidence and success through high quality educational experiences which are rich in core learning with a key focus on ICT. Each school’s ambition is to quickly become an Ofsted Outstanding school which all parents in the area will want their children to attend.”
